Long time no blog.

It’s about the time I started updating this thing on a more regular basis. I’ve been working on some articles about music producing and all stuff involved, but it’s been quite hard to get back into writing, mainly because I’m a one big self-critic, and not having English as my native tongue doesn’t really help.

So I’ll start out with an easy subject, which is two new songs that I used as a learning ground for some tricks. I’m mainly trying to get deeper into the genres of the songs in question, as my ultimate goal is to master at least all electronic genres one could imagine of.

    Hi, CK. Since TIS seems to be more down than up these days and I didn’t manage to download your latest stuff, it’s nice to see your page updated :-) Fallout 3 alt. soundtrack has 658 finished downloads from the CZ mirror btw.

Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack.. Released!

Wow, something’s happening? It’s been rather slack 7 months on this project, but at least we’re finally done. Featuring 14 different artists, and over 4 hours of music. It replaces the ambient and GNR music as well as few music effects in the game. If you want your Fallout 3 to sound more hostile and post-apocalyptic, this is the mod to grab.

    Can’t believe this was not commented yet. I actually searched for your name due to the awesomeness of your music.

    The industrial sound of your battle tracks is great, always looked for such music.

    Also I feel reminded of the Hexen II Soundtracks when listening to “Ruins”, “Nephthys” and “Dead Tribes”. “Desolate Sands” however seems to have gotten a touch from the Heroes soundtrack….if you can call it soundtrack actually.

    I also want to add, that I found this “add on” after I already finished Fallout and therefore never listened to it in game. I listen to it when doing stuff at my computer at home and I especially enjoy it at work.

    So…thanks for your effort and the great music!

    asiasta neljänteen joka ei tähän asiaan kuulu edes.
    Oletkos ikinä psykedeelistä tranceä kokeillut vääntää? Vois tulla äijän tyylillä aika helvetin tiukkaa tiputusta?

    Just gotta love this. I played few weeks with the OST for comparison and now installed this little gem. Works like a charm and sounds just great. Thanks a bunch for the whole team.

Hey folks.

So, I just managed to start on the last battletrack of the Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack. That is the last complete track that is needed, so we should be closing in on the release.

Also, I wrapped up another D’n'B song yesterday;

Flats

Cheerio.

Been a while. Not much has been going on. Just the usual, boring life, which I quite enjoy. Anyway, I’ve done a little something during the last couple days. Check this out;

Cheers.

So, it seems we’re closing in on the final release of this site. Only 3 months late, hehe.

On another note, I’m learning to play keyboards again, which is harder than I realized. Just gotta keep on smashing the keys, maybe I’ll produce something melodic some day. At least I can play Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time already. Almost.

Then there’s that Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack, which is also going to be released about 3 months late. We’ve got most of stuff wrapped up now. Or should I say Claymore’s got most of the stuff wrapped up, I’ve been more or less slacking the whole time on the administrative side. I’ll see if I can make another combat theme or two during the next few days.

Oh, and tomorrow’s a fun night at the pub. There’s this bar called “PSK Kaupunni” just across the street and they have these Chambre Noir events in there, which means they’re playing dark ambient, noise and industrial the whole night, which is, obviously, beyond awesome.

More coffee and cigarettes. Adios.

    Nice job getting the site up and running, looking forward to exploring your music torrent. I see you really have no use for color which I like, it makes the site very focused.

Unfinished business

It is depressing to notice that I finish only 10% of my songs that I start nowdays. The figure used to be so much higher a few years back and nearly 100% during the first few years after I discovered Impulse Tracker.

The driving force, the motivation to finish every idea I have, is long gone now. Completing my ideas has become more or less superfluous to me now that I don’t desperately seek feedback to my work anymore. The actual composing is the fun part, afterall.

At least I have alot of skeletons of songs waiting for the final touch in my drawer. I know that some day I’ll finish each one of them. Or not.

    I kind of understand that stage, but in my case, it’s in the writing. Anywayz, don’t let those factors stop you from creating.

    Cheers.

Who am I?

About me

I am Sampo Närhi, a Finnish homo sapiens sapiens. I was raised into a family of musicians and other artists. Needless to say I’m a bit peculiar. I also am one of those people who drink too much coffee, stay up too late and never can find a pen when it’s needed. This, I believe, is quite common among artists.

I spend my days by drinking too much coffee while staring blankly at my computer screen, waiting for revelations - ideas for new songs. Those occur very rarely nowdays unless I have a project to concentrate my thoughts on.

Electronic music is my forte, which of breakbeat, drum’n’bass, ambient and industrial are the closest to my heart. Despite that, I like to think myself as a very versatile composer, since I have the means and the experience to work on almost anything. I also have a fetish for ethnic percussions and post-apocalyptic stuff.

I believe mood is what makes and defines music. It doesn’t have to be complex to be awesome, it doesn’t have to have a clear structure with many different parts to be good. All music really needs is a carefully crafted atmosphere that makes the listener really feel something.
